What a great night we had talking about the New Year and sharing our dreams and resolutions.
We began the evening by reading a poem. “In the Playground” by Abiodun Oyewole –
The students enjoyed writing about and sharing what they imagined when we read the poem.
Then we compared what they imagined to the images on our "take-away".
Children then volunteered to read poems and quotes by Dr. Martin Luther King so we could share in his dream.
We read a few books about dreams and goals:
“If your Dreams Take off and Fly” Butler
“If Big Can…I Can!” Beth Shoshan
Squirrel’s New Year’s Resolution by Pat Miller
After our stretch break, Mrs. McCoy read:
“The Dream Jar” By Lindan Lee Johnson
We ended the night with:
everyone taking home a fancy pencil and a mason jar to make a dream jar like the one we read about.
The children enjoyed cookies and milk provided by the Harbor Pointe management team!
